As Women’s History Month comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate the women who are shaping Downtown Hammond through their businesses, creativity, and leadership.

From wellness and beauty to food and creative spaces, these women bring passion, resilience, and innovation to our district every day. Their work not only strengthens our local economy but also helps create the welcoming, connected community that defines Downtown Hammond.

Below are just a few of the businesses we’ve had the opportunity to meet with so far. Each one offers something unique, and each story reflects the dedication it takes to build and grow a business.


Yellow Bird Cafe

Owned and operated by Elvia Bernal, Yellow Bird Cafe has been a staple in Downtown Hammond for over two decades. Known for its warm, familiar atmosphere and a menu that blends Mexican, Cuban, and American breakfast favorites, the cafe has become a go-to for locals and visitors alike. Beyond the food, Elvia’s personal connection with her customers and her care for the community are what truly set Yellow Bird apart.

The Creative Studio

Founded by Kali Norton, The Creative Studio was created to provide a shared space for photographers, artists, and content creators in Hammond. What began as a new concept for the area has grown into a resource for creatives at all levels. With flexible studio space, thoughtful design, and a collaborative environment, it continues to support both professional work and creative exploration.

Callie’s commitment to both her team and her clients has helped create a space where confidence and community go hand in hand.
