Coffee and Study Spots
Courtyard Cafe - Cute and inviting inside, Courtyard Café is a great place to study while grabbing breakfast or coffee. One of its standout features is the beautiful outdoor courtyard located behind the café. It’s a perfect spot to sit outside, hang out with friends, or settle in with your laptop for a study session when the weather is nice.
Luma Coffee Roasters - This cozy, visually striking space blends modern design with the historic character of the former Rexall Drugs building. Luma isn’t just about aesthetics—the coffee is a standout. It’s a popular off-campus study spot where you’re likely to see other SLU students.
PJ’s Coffee - While it’s a well-known Louisiana chain, PJ’s holds a special place in the Hammond community. Whether you're grabbing a quick snack, sipping a cold brew, or working on coursework, PJ’s offers a reliable and comfortable place to get things done.
Nightlife (18+)
Cate Street Pub - A longtime local favorite, Cate Street Pub has become a popular nightlife destination for a new generation of students. Its open layout, neon accents, pool tables, and frequent drink specials make it an easy choice for a night out. Whether you're attending a themed event or just looking to dance and unwind with friends, Cate Street Pub offers a lively, energetic atmosphere.
Fifth’s Arcade and Bar - A spot where everyone can find their groove. Whether you want to dance with friends, relax on the sidelines, or spend time in the arcade, Fifth’s offers something for everyone. Located in the former Augustine’s Bar space, it blends a lively nightlife scene with retro arcade games to create a fun, social environment. Fifth’s is also known for bringing in exciting live shows from time to time, with past performances by artists like Afroman, 50 Cent, and Lil Boosie, making it a memorable destination for students looking for something extra.
The Brown Door - A popular hangout for SLU students, The Brown Door is a go-to spot where familiar faces come together after dark. It’s an easy place to relax, socialize, and spend time with friends, making it a consistent favorite in downtown Hammond’s nightlife scene.

Columbia Theatre - This historic venue in downtown Hammond offers an eclectic array of experiences, from captivating operas and plays to live music performances. Movie lovers can also enjoy special screenings of cult classics such as Star Wars and The Rocky Horror Picture Show on the big screen. In partnership with Southeastern Louisiana University, the Columbia Theatre consistently presents stunning productions that enhance the cultural landscape of our downtown!
Reimers Memorial Theatre - A delightful relic from the 1950s, offers a unique glimpse into the past with its lovingly preserved Nifty Fifties nostalgia. This cozy venue showcases performances by Southeastern Louisiana University, and First Christian Church, as well as a Musicians Jam Night on certain Tuesdays.
Hammond Regional Arts Center - Discover the artistic centerpiece of downtown. A local art gallery that has a warm and quaint charm. They offer a diverse array of exhibits, engaging art classes for all ages, and lively events that celebrate and promote local talent. Explore their online art gallery and two distinct exhibition rooms, all accessible to the public free of charge. The Arts Center also hosts regular open artist calls, inviting everyone to showcase their work. Spend your free time enjoying events that pair delicious beers and wines with stunning art and live music.
Painting with a Twist - Whether you're looking to celebrate or simply unwind, Painting with a Twist offers a delightful blend of artistic expression and social enjoyment. Enjoy a lively atmosphere as you follow along with expert instructors to create beautiful paintings. Outdoor Explorers
Dreamland Skatepark - It’s free, open from dawn to dusk, and known for its welcoming, inclusive atmosphere that encourages skill-sharing and community.
Small Time Skates - One of the first skate shops to shape downtown Hammond’s skate scene, this iconic spot has long been a gathering place for skaters of all ages thanks to Chris Daniels. From longtime locals to the next generation, Small Time Skates offers top skate brands and classic Vans footwear, helping keep the skateboarding community thriving.
Still Pushing Skate Shop - The freshest addition to Hammond’s skate scene! Even though it’s a new face in town, owner Brent Coker isn’t exactly a newcomer—he’s been a cornerstone of the local skate community since his teenage years. After making waves with his company Therapy Skateboards, known for its Louisiana pride and pop culture flair, Coker’s now at the helm of Still Pushing.
GreyCat CycleWorx - Where every bike enthusiast is met with enthusiasm and expertise. Whether you’re in the market for a brand-new bike or a well-loved second-hand option, they’ve got you covered. Their employees provide top-notch services, including tune-ups, repairs and custom installations, ensuring your bike is always in great condition.
Zemurray Park- While not officially within the downtown district, this park is easily accessible and well worth the visit. With a community pool, pond for fishing, designated dog park, and paths that are perfect for walking or biking it is the perfect place.
Cate Square Park - Shaded by large oak trees, enjoy a leisurely picnic on the expansive grassy areas, or take in the unique sculptures scattered throughout the park. This is the perfect place to escape and soak in the serenity or enjoy a community event.
