Art Guild Summer Adult Art Camp Returns
Hammond, LA, May 22, 2025 – This July, the Hammond Art Guild invites adults and teens aged 16 and up to immerse themselves in the visual arts through hands-on workshops designed for artists of all skill levels. The Guild’s 2025 Summer Adult Art Camp, held at the Hammond Regional Arts Center, will run from July 7–11 and July 14–18, offering a wide range of classes in morning and afternoon sessions.
From watercolor to wirework, pottery to pastels, the camp features 12 courses taught by experienced local instructors who are practicing artists and long-term educators in the region.
“The goal is to allow the community to try something new, or to deepen their existing skills, while connecting with others through creativity,” said Art Guild President Marion Ochs. “Each class is designed to be both educational and approachable.”
Week One: July 7–11
Morning Sessions (9 a.m.–12 p.m.)
The Magic of Watercolor with Bruce Hume
A technique-driven course exploring gradient washes, layering, and dry brushing. Open to intermediate painters; beginners welcome.
Copper Jewelry Making with Linda White Bateman
Participants will learn how to create chains, bracelets, earrings and pendants using copper.
Quilling Intro with Arlene Lenz
A beginner-friendly introduction to the paper art of quilling, culminating in a decorative flower ornament.
Afternoon Sessions (1–4 p.m.)
Painting with Soft Pastels with CB Hume
Explore composition, color blending and layering using soft pastels. Suited for both beginning and intermediate artists.
Fiber Art: Mixed Media Inspiration with Marion Ochs
This workshop combines hand weaving, stitching, metallic painting and found object art to create textured wall hangings.
Exploring Functional Handbuilt Pottery with Sherri White
Students will use pinch, coil and slab methods to create mugs, bowls and vases, incorporating nature-inspired textures.
Week Two: July 14–18
Morning Sessions (9 a.m.–12 p.m.)
Painting in Oils with CB Hume
Participants will paint small still life paintings while learning to mix colors and use oil paints effectively.
Color with Linda White Bateman
An all-level class focusing on how to make color theory practical.
Afternoon Sessions (1–4 p.m.)
Soapstone Carving with Otto Ochs
A sculpting course in which participants create miniature carvings from soft, easily shaped soapstone using hand tools.
Pine Needle Baskets with Tootie Calmes
Learn to craft baskets in the style of the Coushatta Indian tribe, beginning with a trivet and moving to a full basket.
Polymer Clay (Intermediate) with Marion Ochs
This course builds on foundational clay techniques with more advanced approaches and project-based learning. Students will learn how to make a two-tone Brocade Effect on clay that can be used on beads, bracelets or vessels.
Each class costs $100, and registration is now open at hammondartguild.com. Space is limited, and early enrollment is encouraged.
