The Hammond Downtown Development District (DDD) will host its 21st Annual Starry November Night on Friday, November 20, 2026, from 5–8 p.m. in historic Downtown Hammond. The event marks the start of the holiday shopping season downtown and returns to a Friday evening format after five years as a Saturday event.
Participating downtown retailers will offer special sales and holiday promotions during the event, giving shoppers an early opportunity to purchase gifts from locally owned businesses.
Activities will take place at two locations, Railroad Park and Cate Square Park.
Railroad Park will host photos with Santa, holiday music throughout the evening, and a fire truck for children to explore. The park will also feature a snow play area, which returns to the event for the first time since 2015.
Cate Square Park will host the Night Market, featuring local vendors and makers selling handmade goods and gifts. Holiday train rides around downtown, provided by Star Equipment, will depart from Cate Square Park. Tickets are $5 per person and will be sold on site on a first come, first served basis. Children ages two and under ride free.
Downtown restaurants and pubs will be open throughout the evening, offering seasonal food and drinks.
Businesses located within the Downtown Development District may register their participation and submit special sales, promotions, or planned shopping experiences at downtownhammondla.com/snn. The DDD will promote participating businesses and their offers ahead of the event. Additional details about participating businesses will be announced in the coming weeks.
The DDD is seeking sponsors and volunteers for the event. Sponsorship levels include Music and Entertainment Sponsor, Snow Play Area Sponsor, Night Market Sponsor, and Community Sponsor, ranging from $300 to $1,500. Sponsorship and volunteer information is available at downtownhammondla.com/snn.
Road closures will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 20. West Charles Street will be closed at Cate Square Park, and NW Railroad Avenue will be closed between Thomas Street and West Charles Street.
Starry November Night is free and open to the public. For more information, visit downtownhammondla.com/snn.
